We’d spent more than six incredible hours snorkeling with two adult humpback whales in Tonga. Every time we returned to the boat, the two whales began breaching out of the water, as if they were desperate to see what we were doing. We quickly jumped back in, so as not to offend them. We floated in amazement as the two humpbacks twisted and danced below us, impressing us with their show. After snorkeling with humpback whales in Tonga, my world forever changed. I fell in love and fell hard.
Spend six full days snorkeling with humpback whale mother-calf pairs on their calving grounds in Tonga, and explore coral gardens off the coast of Vava’u. Named a National Geographic Traveler “Tour of a Lifetime” in 2009.
WE HEARD the whale before we saw it. Singing so loud the sound reverberated through the hull of the boat.
“It’s got to be close if we can hear it up here”, said our guide, before she jumped in the water with her mask and snorkel to look for it. Sure enough, she pointed, he was right below us.

Backpackers, seniors, families, world travellers, groups of friends, and so many more people join us on a daily basis.
Go to southern Belize between April and June. This is when divers and snorkelers get the chance to spot the large pelagic feeder known as the whale shark. When in a playful mood, the “gentle giants” will hang around for a long time. The best time for a trip is three days before the full moon to three days after the last quarter moon (It’s during this period that Cubera Snappers spawn, attracting the Whale Sharks).
